Types of Warts
Human Papilloma Virus
Infections
Warts are benign lesions of the skin caused by
the human papilloma virus9HPV). The lesions are round and
elevated with a rough surface, and may occur anywhere on the
skin.
The shape of the common wart, verucca
vulgaris, is round, firm with a rough raised surface
sometimes dotted with tiny black spots, which are small blood
vessels and may occur as an isolated single lesion, or in a
cluster Different papilloma viruses are specific for different
locations.

The common wart occurs most frequently in
school children, the incidence decreases after age 25.
They are more common in girls than boys, and occur mostly on
the fingers.

Verruca plana, otherwise known as flat warts
are flat-topped papules which may be found in young children as
well as adults. They are mostly located on the backs of the
hands, or shins and often disappear quickly without any
treatment.

Verruca vulgaris or plantar wart may be found
on the sole, heel, or ball of the foot, they most commonly
occur in late teens , and in those who share bathing facilities
or dormitories. The appearance of the plantar wart is mostly
flat with a hyperkeratotic surface, tenderness may be
marked.
The best method for treating the wart is to avoid exposure
in the first place, this can be done by wearing footwear at all
times .Because they are under the foot the constant pressure
can add to their size, and cause pain and discomfort when
walking, pressure can be relieved by the addition of a
metatarsal bar on the shoe.
Genital Warts otherwise known as condylomata
acuminata, veneral wart or verruca acuminata, occur mostly in
young sexually active adults. They may occur as pinhead papules
or as cauliflower-like masses, may present as a solitary
lesion, but are mostly found in clusters and can vary in size
from a walnut to an apple. The location of the lesions in
males may be found along the glans of the penis, prepuce,
shaft, or scrotum, and in females around the clitoris,
periurethral area, perineum, vagina, and cervix. Both sexes may
have the lesions in the anal canal, perineal, perianal,
urethral meatus, urethra, bladder, and in the mouth.
